In December

It was cold.
Yes. So very cold.
Who was she? Why was she there?

Those were questions she didn't have the answers to.

The girl opened her eyes. Icicles leapt for her eyelashes and shattered on the ground. She looked at her arms, suddenly alarmed. She was covered in ice! Her arms were a strange bluish color. Her white tank top and black shorts were nearly frozen as well. Currently, she was curled into a ball, with her chin resting on her crossed arms. Shaking off the ice, the girl stood on her bare feet. What had happened to her? She looked around, hoping for an answer.

She stood on a pier. There was water in front of her, for miles around. She quickly deduced that she stood before a lake. Behind her was only a forest. It seemed menacing, threatening. She squinted anxiously. Though it was night, she couldn't see any lights, anywhere. She couldn't remember why she had come here. No. That wasn't true. As she tried harder, she realized she couldn't remember anything.
Not even her own name.

This thought scared the girl. Everyone had a name. She must remember it. She knew that it was the key to everything, her name. She had to try and remember.

The girl squeezed her eyes shut and thought. She pressed her now-dripping hands to her matted black hair, which was also wet. No matter how hard she tried, she just couldn't think of it. She knew she might never.

There was a rustling in the trees in front of her. She glanced up in fear. Who was it?
